La Tefra Negra: evidencia de una erupción volcánica previa al Xitle en el sitio arqueológico de Copilco

Copilco, como otros asentamientos arqueológicos ubicados al suroeste de la Cuenca de México, experimentó varios fenómenos vulcanológicos que afectaron su desarrollo y terminaron por sepultar sus vestigios. El estudio de uno de estos eventos se llevó a cabo a partir de la identificación de una capa denominada Tefra Negra, la cual impactó indudablemente a la población del sitio, previo a la erupción del volcán Xitle, aportando con ello nuevos datos para los futuros estudios arqueológicos referentes a las repercusiones que pudo haber tenido la expulsión de esta tefra en Copilco y Cuicuilco, así como en otras aldeas al suroeste de la Cuenca de México.
