Abstract

Hate crimes against homosexuals along with other homicides—such as those perpetrated against men in organized crime—are expressions of homophobia. The bodies of both types of victims record male domination over female, the supremacy of heterosexuality over homosexuality. This essay presents ananalogy of homophobia-based crimes with victims of organized crime. Both correspond to subordinated masculinities and also transgression of the norm, in other words, breaking the law. Based on information in the local printed media, forms of male homicide are analyzed for the present year in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Finally, the conclusion reached is that homophobia is part of a complex social technology that reproduces identity categories that perLA mit the asymmetrical exercise of power of a patriarchal social and sexual order.
