Abstract

This paper synthesizes the reasons concerning the need for holistic attention for transsexual people to be included in the framework of respect for human rights.The text criticizes exclusion of and discrimination against transsexual individuals revealing that transphobia is caused by three factors: ignorance, prejudice and pathologization.The text also stresses the imperative need for the construction of a culture of respect for sexual diversity as a condition for truly inclusive democracy.
