Abstract

The results of anthropological research on the meanings of sexual relations between men in the Yoeme indigenous population (Yaqui) of Sonora are presented. The methodology consisted of in-depth interviews and participant observation with individuals from various Yoeme communities of Sonora. It provides a characterization of the cultural dynamics with particular emphasis in ideologies, gender relations, identities, and ethnicity that construct themeanings of sexual relations between men in this society.
