Abstract

Homophobia can be imagined -allowing ourselves to use a metaphor- as a persistent, ghostly presence that encompasses daily life, sowing fear and resentment, insidiousness, guilt, shame, and distrust; harvesting with relentless, ironic cruelty and prepotency countless alienations and ruptures while at the same time producing an unhealthy miasma of violence and fear. Homophobia is both war and gangrene.
