Abstract

Although the conservation of archaeological sites is often a task that is carried out in conjunction with members of society seeking education and other bene ts from cultural heritage in order to strengthen mutual co-responsibility, sometimes contextual conditions such as adverse environmental impacts may compromise their existence, in such a way, that it is imperative to develop alternatives from various perspectives for overall protection and conservation. Thus, this paper addresses the case of Cuevas Pintas, an archaeological site with rock art in the municipality of Loreto, Baja California Sur, severely and repeatedly affected by the recent wave of tropical storms and hurricanes that endanger its conservation. It also highlights the coordinated and interdisciplinary work that permitted to evaluate the pertinence of a controlled reburial, which was the result of an integral work devoted to the documentation, conservation and protection of the site. Furthermore, both the challenges to be addressed and the strategies proposed are emphasized so that, despite of the fact that the site has been recently reburied, its knowledge, enjoyment and, above all, its social appropriation can be promoted.

}, number={11-12}, journal={CR.
