Abstract
Anthropology as a social science was established in Mexico during the administration of Porfirio Díaz and throughout the two stages of the Mexican Revolution: the armed struggle and the institutionalization of the revolutionary regime. Although these historical processes were antagonistic, they permitted and furthered anthropological science, from their own postulates and political interests. This was possible given the field’s vocation for the study of social processes, which was also an applied science approach to the analysis and resolution of social problems with historical roots through dialogue with other sciences and disciplines.
