Abstract

The article describes the process of the formation of the viceregal painting collection of the Museo Regional de Guadalajara as a cultural project developed in the context of the Mexican Constitution of 1917. It explains how the main painting collections were formed, the works included, and how they were valued. The importance of this collection is established on the basis of these historical considerations and a new line of research is proposed.
