Abstract

Transsexualism covers an area of plural discursive intersection where different kinds of narratives converge to define it.There are political debates between transsexuals and transgenderists; there are medical stories and their power to create realities through diagnosis; and there are also real people developing particular subjectivities. There are many maps and there are also many territories to travel through and understand transsexualism. On these pages the basic structure of the medical management process of transsexualism is presented and the way transsexual people position themselves when confronted with medical discourse in an institutional environment of medical care of transsexuality is analyzed.
