Abstract
This article presents the results of research that examined the notes published in two newspapers in Guadalajara about an act of violence against transvestite sex workers in that city and the reactions of a group of young gays to these messages. The fact is analyzed that independently of the tendency of messages, the comments generated by the gay participants showed a hegemonic reading supporting them.Through a discussion group in which key questions were raised, these young people established a group position in which negative opinions coincided and homophobic displays were reinforced by the way newspapers addressed the event in most cases.
