Abstract

What are a religion’s sacred texts? We have to keep in mind the religion that arrived to Latin America five hundred years ago was christianity (refering to the worshipping of Christ and not to the modern religion). How should christianity sacred texts be understood, the Bible, in reference to sexual diversity in general and to homosexuality in particular? What are we talking about when we allude sexual diversity? The best answer to biblical-religious fundamentalism of our time has been hermeneutics. The hermeneutic circle. Liberating post-colonial hermeneutics as the best tool for an updated and contextual reading of christian sacred texts. Freeing and decolonizing christianity in general and the Word of God in particular is a matter of urgency to get to a lively and prophetic christian practice, a christianity that can be an opening agent for new personal and social realities – inclusion and acceptance realities of justice and compassion.
