Abstract

The article presents the results of sociological research aimed at characterizing the dominant social representations of erotic-affective relationships among women in Hermosillo, Sonora, a border state in northern Mexico. Two qualitative methods were used: participant observation and in-depth interviews with women of different ages and social conditions. I identified a diversity of elements typical of a sexual discourse and a phallocentric genre, binary in its understanding of sexes and genders,  heterosexist  and  androcentric,  with  associated  classist  representations  that look down on the lesbian experience as vulgar for the absence of a penis, and consider it an affront to masculine identity.
