For almost three decades there has been raised awareness of violence towards members of the lgbti+ community in different countries in Latin America. Most of this work has been done by civil society organizations that have compiled figures to show the violence these social groups suffer and the urgency to implement public policies and to punish people who commit acts of this kind. Despite the data and the fact that countries like Mexico and Brazil have been identified as nations with the highest numbers of violent attacks against members of the lgbti+ community, actions to stop and investigate these crimes are almost non-existent.
