Abstract

Archaeological investigations carried out at the site La Bocana, near the Copalita River, in the Bay of Huatulco, Oaxaca, have yielded valuable information about the social, economic, political and religious activities of a coastal town. This urban settlement dates back to the Preclassic; later it flourished in the Classic; and it declined in the Postclassic. This article is a brief description of the cultural patterns identified, based on all of the material found there.
