Archaeology of the lower course of the Papagayo River: Dam

Abstract

The archaeological surface surveys related to the National Archaeological Atlas, the hydroelectric project of La Parota Dam, and diverse salvage projects have revealed archaeological sites on the lower course of the Papagayo River and in the vicinity of the port of Acapulco. Based on photo-interpretation and fields results, we present a preliminary proposal concerning settlement patterns, as well as sequences of occupation and material culture of the groups that lived near this waterway between the Early Preclassic and Late Postclassic periods.
