Petroglyph in architectural Ball Game 5 of Cantona, Puebla

Abstract

This paper discusses a petroglyph integrated in the main building of Ballcourt 5. It also offers an iconographic analysis of the petroglyph, associating it with its archaeological context. The data were obtained from the Proyecto Cantona publications and from visits to the archaeological site. This information was used to compare the petroglyph designs with others from the regions near the archaeological site. The Mapas de Cuauhtinchan and the Historia tolteca-chichimeca were also examined for comparative forms and content, keeping in mind Mesoamerican secular symbols.
