Abstract

Recent excavations at the archaeological site of La Ferrería, together with the iconographic
and petrographic analysis of Aztatlán and Chalchihuites pottery, and the study of historical
and ethnographic sources provide a way to approach the interaction between the pre-hispanic
inhabitants of the southern coast of Sinaloa and northern Nayarit, with the Guadiana Valley
dwellers. The data now suggests that in addition to trade relations, groups from both regions were linked by a set of shared beliefs.
