Abstract

The occurrence of Aztatlán materials in the state of Durango has led researchers to
propose that during pre-Hispanic times, the dwellers of the northwest coast and the highlands
were part of a commercial system. Today, through interdisciplinary studies, based on petroglyphic analysis of ceramics, the study of ethnohistorical sources, and ethnographic analogy, this paper presents new data that allows us to reformulate hypotheses concerning Aztatlán-Chalchihuites interaction.
