Abstract

Much is known about the ancient city of Cantona, but little is known of its ceramics, especially wares characteristic of the Cantona I phase. Based on part of the results obtained during work conducted by the Special Cantona Project it has been possible to refine the various ceramic types with greater precision and to establish their respective chronology. To date it is known that material from this phase has close ties to areas such as the Puebla-Tlaxcala Valley and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the Tehuacan Valley, south of Puebla, the Bajio region, and the Valley of Oaxaca. In this way pottery developed, changed and adapted to the demands of a society in constant growth.
