La arquitectura de madera en el Porfiriato yucateco

Abstract

Wooden architecture in Yucatan, particularly that produced during the age of Porfirio D?az, has been unjustly overlooked by scholars in the history of local construction. This architecture, related to the henequen boom that led to the rapid expansion of the city, the proliferation of open-plan constructions on haciendas and equipment areas of M?rida, and the arrival of new building types derived from the greater economic and cultural relationship of Mexico with Europe and the United States, is an important part of the constructive history of the state of Yucat?n that therefore must be registered and studied. Even though many of the main examples have already been destroyed, superb examples of this type of architecture still survive especially on haciendas. This work contributes to the study of this architecture to pave the way to its reappraisal and recognition.
