Abstract
The building known as the Colegio de Nuestra Señora de Covadonga was established on the street of Belisario Domínguez, formerly known as San Lorenzo, in the Historic Center of Mexico City, thanks to the sponsorship of Vicente Antonio de Soto, a priest originally from Asturias. In 1770 he dedicated his capital and efforts to building a sizeable residence intended to be an asylum to house girls of Spanish descent, who lived in the main cloister of the house. However, the building never served as a school, hospice, or residence for lay women; with time it became housing and in 2004 it was restored to be used as a condominium.
