Construcciones misionales en el noroeste del septentrión de la Nueva España, provincia de Sonora, siglo XVIII

After the expulsion of the Jesuits from the territories in New Spain, the material work, including the missionary churches that they had built in the North for more than a century, was turned over to the Franciscan order. At first, it was given to the Colegio de Quer.taro and later, part of it was placed under the protection of the Province of Jalisco. During a brief period from 1768 to 1776 when friars from Quer.taro did missionary work in Sonora, did they actively take advantage of these constructions to establish the foundations for the planning, projecting, and execution of works that were eventually carried out in the region, including hiring and setting up agreements, obligations and rights for civil and ecclesiastical authorities as well as builders. Later the friars made an effort to maintain, preserve, build and propose architecture based on the natural environment, the foundations of their religious order, and the requirements that the Bourbon Reforms imposed on them. Therefore, architectural work in these regions is extremely valuable and we have documentary evidence of those who worked directly in building the structures with the native population, who ancestrally held and moved around these vast territories.
