Abstract

In France, in the post-World War II period, the notion of productivity was developed while the industrialization of construction was implemented. The years from 1945 to 1975 were characterized by intense production in the construction sector. In a period of thirty years, known in France as the “glorious thirty,” the government guaranteed the economic conditions for th implementation and development of industrialized construction. The concept of productivity was fundamental for this mode of production. Therefore, the discourse of productivity is parallel to that of the industrialization of construction. The principles of speed and low cost of prefabrication were put to the test in the building construction; productivity as a measure of technical progress made it possible to relate the potential and problematic factors of prefabricated construction.
