Abstract

The construction of the church of San Francisco Javier, part of the former Jesuit school of Tepotzotlán, began in 1670 and was concluded with the support of Pedro de Medina Picazo and his mother, Isabel Picazo Hinojosa from 1679 to its dedication in 1682. Renovated throughout the eighteenth century, this church underwent diverse construction and ornamental stages. Recent evidence obtained in situ and a thorough comparative analysis of documents shed light on the history of this Jesuit complex.
