Restauración de un vestido del siglo XVIII atribuido a la imagen escultórica de Nuestra Señora de las Aguas

Abstract

This article describes the restoration of an eighteenth-century garment attributed to the image of Our Lady of Waters of the Conceptionist congregation of the Royal Monastery of Jesús María in Mexico City. The approach to this piece was based on the recognition of cultural expressions prompted by a stain considered to be evidence of a miraculous event following a flood in 1714. Research expanded knowledge of the materials, the manufacturing techniques, and the garment’s multi-dimensional meanings. This knowledge justified the methods and restoration materials used to preserve the remarkable character of this textile.
