Abstract
Starting in 1912, an organization called the Union of Mexican Catholic Ladies carried out philanthropic activities, founded schools, and attended to the poor, the sick and working women. It also promoted the role of the Catholic religion as an essential part of daily life for the inhabitants of Mexico City. This article explores the value system, political ties, and public activities this organization developed between 1912 and 1930. It also explains how it developed welfare services that sought to defend working women, promote a Catholic educational system, and encourage Christian morals. This program was part of an alternative project of a nation, driven by the political right wing in the early twentieth century which sought to promote the role of the Catholic religion as the central axes of national cohesion.
