Representatives, actors and legislators: the political world of the Mexico City Congress
Keywords:
Politics, ritual, rationality, representation, performance.Abstract
The world of politics and the work of popular representatives in the Congress of Mexico City is structured according to two grand times. A technical and pragmatic time (the ordinary session), oriented towards the elaboration, discussion, processing and implementation of legal and political initiatives and reforms, along with a ceremonial time (the solemn session), oriented towards celebration and commemoration, to the ritual staging, show and theatricality. There is a dialogue between these times, which more than opposing each other, actually overlap, which explains the life and expressions of the congressional culture in different contexts.
