Nota sobre el llamado Cuauhxicalli-Temalácatl de Motecuhzoma Ilhuicamina

The author analyzes the significance of a cylindrical monument which carne to light in 1988, during the excavations of the former Palace of the Archbishop in México City. The object is a cuauhxicalli-temalacatl, similar to the Tízoc Stone. According to the author, it records the conquest attributed to the Aztec Axayácatl between 1464 and 1481. This interpreta tion, which is based on a study of the monument's sculptured elements, is different from that proposed by other authors who assert that the monument refers to the conquests of Motecuhzoma Ilhuicamina.
