Abstract

Since the 1950s, the American side of the U.S.-México borderhas been the scene for the emergence of what in the United States are referred to as "colonias", i.e., irregular neighborhoods populated by poor Mexican inimigrants. The "colonias" are found along the outskirts of citics in Texas, New México, Atizona, and California. A racist, colonialist discourse referring to the "colonias" has developed recently. The purpose of this article is to analyze and criticize that anti-Mexican discourse.
