On these pages we undertake a micro-historical reconstruction of the municipality of Calimaya in the State of Mexico, on slopes of the volcano Xinantécatl also known as the Nevado de Toluca. Calimaya is composed of a group of peasant villages, whose origin dates back to pre-Hispanic times. The main objective is to demonstrate it is impossible to thoroughly study the past of these communities, without considering them an active and functional part of the dominant macro-historical structures, specifically those of the 19th century in Mexico. The idea is to delve into the site in order to establish how what was happening on a macro-historical level impacted the development of the small village space. The historical material supporting our work comes principally from documents in the parish and municipal archives. The study is accompanied by charts that quantify the information analyzed.
