Sor Juana y la herejía: sobre la fundamentación teológica del Primero sueño

Abstract

Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, multiple interpretations of Primero Sueño (First dream) by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz have been formulated. Usually such interpretations turn to philosophical and theological theories, alien to the poet’s cultural milieu. The lack of esteem for Aristotelian-Thomistic thought, pervasive at that time, has favored anachronistic and deficient readings of the poem. It is necessary to recover the scholastic reading in order to comprehend it properly.
