This article deals with the scholarly consecration of a prominent figure in the late seventeenth-century intelligentsia in New Spain, the Jesuit Juan Martínez de la Parra. Based on renewed methodological tools such as the study of networks and the examination of printed paratexts, the aim is to present the keys to the swift recognition of the Jesuit by his peers in the capital of New Spain. Ultimately, the article reveals, underlying the priest’s trajectory, a facet of intellectual life in Mexico, with the strong presence of Christian humanism.
