EDITORIAL POLICY AND GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
Narrativas Antropológicas, an electronic journal of the Directorate of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of INAH, publishes unpublished and original works, written in Spanish or any of the national languages. It accepts articles and visual essays addressing topics in ethnology, social anthropology, and ethnography. The spirit of the journal emphasizes the profound sense that animates both disciplines: it privileges the comprehensive understanding of the human being (anthropos) and as a social collective (ethnos). The journal aims to be a space for researchers to "refer," "bring," and "return" ethnographic knowledge through their own "narratives."
Contributions are sought that refer to moments or situations in which the anthropologist is both a witness and a participant, aiming to transmit and disseminate what has been observed. Reflections on what the everydayness of human existence means for both the research subjects and the anthropologist are also welcomed. Therefore, descriptive or interpretive accounts of reality are accepted, from any analytical proposal.
Narrativas Antropológicas encourages the publication of texts whose genesis and elaboration reflect the peculiar characteristics of anthropological knowledge production, emphasizing the evident connection of theoretical elaboration with ethnographic experience and fieldwork, the search for direct sources, or the ethnographic treatment of primary and secondary sources, as well as the emphasis on the living testimonies of research subjects. Epistemological and reflexive consciousness, along with fruitful interaction with historical and social disciplines, is manifest, within a perspective of the unity of the human sciences.
Narrativas Antropológicas was established in 2017 on the initiative of researchers from the DEAS, with the purpose of providing a space to address relevant issues for our work and share anthropological narratives developed from fieldwork or reflection on ethnography. In addition to works by academics, testimonies from their interlocutors are published, and various formats of textual and graphical presentation are accommodated.
Frequency.
It is publihed twice a year in digital format and is open access, contributing to the circulation of ideas and the generation and exchange of knowledge. The submission of proposals for inclusion in the journal is free, and there is no monetary cost for publication, reading, or downloading of materials.
Copyright.
Authors retain copyright and full publishing rights without restrictions.
Interested individuals should send their work to the email narrativas_antropologicas@inah.gob.mx, indicating which section their contribution is intended for. The characteristics and publication processes depend on each section of the journal:
Sections:
a) Narratives (Relatos): Publishes original research works that demonstrate clear ethnological, ethnographic, and social anthropological work, and that consider the processes of reflection on what the everyday human experience means for both the actors and the researcher. The Editorial Board will evaluate the relevance of submissions and subject them to a double-blind peer review process, preserving the anonymity of authors and reviewers.
Submissions must be in Word 97 or later, with a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25 pages, 1.5 spaced, in Arial 12 font, with 3 cm margins on all sides. Paragraphs should have a 1.25 cm hanging indent. Footnotes and references should appear at the bottom of the page, and the bibliography should be at the end, using the Chicago citation style. Images should be in TIFF or JPEG format, at least 300 dpi, letter-sized.
Submissions must include an abstract in Spanish and English (maximum 180 words), five keywords (different from those in the title), authorship information, and, if the images are not the author's own, documentation accrediting publication permission.
b) Glances (Miradas): Presents audiovisual dossiers and visual anthropology essays. Submissions require a relevance review for the evaluation of the material, in technical and academic terms, according to the journal's profile. Accepted files will be published in the journal; links to other websites will not be accepted. Contributions can be of two types:

Photographic Series: Include an introductory text explaining who made the photographic record, when it was made, where it was made, and how it was made, as well as the context of the photographic record (e.g. during a festival, as part of an interview, during a specific ritual, etc.). Submissions should follow the same formatting guidelines as "Narratives" (Word 97 or later, 1-4 pages, 3 cm margins, 1.5 spaced, Arial 12 font, 1.25cm hanging indent, Chicago citation style, images in TIFF or JPEG format at least 300 dpi, letter-sized). Include authorship information and, if images are not the author’s own, provide documentation authorizing their publication. Submissions must also include abstracts in Spanish and English (maximum 120 words) and five keywords.

Video: Include an introductory text explaining who made the video recording, when it was made, where it was made, how it was made, the context of the video recording (for example, a festival, an interview, a life history narrative, a ritual, daily activities, or any other relevant context), and what type of material it includes (for example, music by a specific artist or group, an interpretation of a song or dance, recorded voices of individuals or groups, film recordings of a specific event or celebration, or other pertinent details). The introductory text should follow the same formatting guidelines as "Narratives" (Word 97 or later, 1-4 pages, etc.). The video should be submitted in MPEG-4 format. Include authorship information and, if the video is not the author’s own, documentation authorizing its publication. Submissions must also include abstracts in Spanish and English (maximum 180 words) and five keywords.
c) Voices (Voces): Dedicated to interviews, testimonial narratives with minimal intervention by the researcher, and other works deemed relevant by the Editorial Board. Submissions require a relevance review. Accepted formats:

Audio: Include an introductory text (1-4 pages) explaining who made the audio recording, when the recording was made, where the recording was made, how the recording was made, the context of the audio recording (such as a festival, an interview, a specific event, or any other pertinent context) and what type of material it includes (for example, music from a particular artist, recorded voices of participants, or any other relevant audio content). Follow the formatting guidelines for "Narratives". The audio should be submitted in MP3 format. Include abstracts in Spanish and English (maximum 120 words) and five keywords. Include authorship information and, if the audio is not the author’s own, provide documentation authorizing its publication.
d) Perspectives (Perspectivas): Theoretical approaches and methodological considerations related to ethnology, ethnography, and social anthropology. Only written submissions are considered for this section. The Editorial Board will evaluate relevance and conduct double-blind peer reviews. Follow formatting guidelines for "Narratives" (Word 97 or later, 15-25 pages, etc.). Include abstracts in Spanish and English (maximum 180 words) and five keywords.
e) Debates: Primarily dedicated to establishing academic dialogue with works published in the journal. Content that presents different or complementary perspectives to published arguments, whether in theoretical, methodological, or ethnographic terms, is preferred. Accepted texts will be sent to the original author for a response. If provided, both texts will be published together. Disqualifying, personal criticisms, adjectivizations, or irony will not be considered, understanding that the original text has already satisfied the journal's peer review process. Follow formatting guidelines for "Narratives" (Word 97 or later, 5-9 pages, etc.). Include abstracts in Spanish and English (maximum 180 words) and five keywords.
f) Reviews (Reseñas): Reviews of books, theses, audiovisuals, exhibitions, photographic essays, academic activities, and other anthropological works no older than three years. Reviews of older works may be exceptionally included if the author justifies their contemporary relevance. The review should address the general objective of the text being reviewed, the work’s contributions to Ethnology, Ethnography, or Social Anthropology, a critique of the work, and a brief conclusion (4-7 pages). Include an image of the reviewed material if possible (TIFF or JPEG format, at least 300 dpi, letter-sized).
Author Information.
All contributions, regardless of the section they apply to, should include the following information in a separate document: author's name, institution where they work or study, address, landline or cellphone number, email address, ORCID registration, information on sponsorship received from any public or private entity for the total or partial realization of the research or work, and a 10-line curriculum vitae.
Assessment.
The Editorial Board will send the received works for the "Relatos" and "Perspectivas" sections to two external evaluators for assessment, preserving the anonymity of both the author and the reviewer (double-blind). If approved, the author will be notified, and if applicable, corrections and modification suggestions will be presented; recommendations made by the reviewer or the Editorial Board will be submitted for the author's consideration. Contributions will be reviewed and edited in accordance with the guidelines for original presentation specified below.
The content of the contributions and the reproduction rights of the figures included are the sole responsibility of the author.
