Call for Papers: Body, Person, and Territory: Framework and Perspectives from Anthropology
Narrativas antropológicas, a journal dedicated to the dissemination of ethnographic research and anthropological reflections, invites submissions that explore the complex framework between body, person, and territory. We seek contributions that, from diverse perspectives and innovative methodologies, offer interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary views on this topic.
Thematic Axes:
This call for papers focuses on the exploration of the interconnection between body, person, and territory, prioritizing the contribution of anthropology and gender, native, and intercultural perspectives. Researchers are invited to submit works that engage with the following lines of interest:
Human-environmental relations: Analysis of the interactions between societies and their environment, considering the cultural, symbolic, and material dimensions of these relationships.
Social constitution of the person and the territory: Exploration of how the notions of person and territory are socially constructed, attending to the diversity of cultural and historical perspectives.
The body and its intersectionality: Studies that address the body as a site of inscription of power relations, considering the intersections of gender, class, ethnicity, and other social categories.
Memory, affects, and perception: Research on the subjective dimensions and experiences of the relationship with the territory, including memory, affects, emotions, and perception.
Knowledge, use, and management of the territory: Analysis of knowledge, practices, and territorial management systems that have an impact on bodily processes, with special attention to indigenous and local knowledge.
Socio-environmental impacts, conflicts, and suffering: Studies on the impacts of human activities on the environment and the conflicts that arise around the use and control of the territory.
Rationale:
Anthropology has historically examined the relationship between body and person. Currently, the importance of integrating territory into this equation is recognized, especially in light of the worldviews of indigenous and native peoples.
In a global context marked by biodiversity loss and cultural homogenization, it is urgent to understand the body-person-territory framework from relational and situated perspectives. This call seeks to promote research that contributes to making biocultural diversity visible and generating dialogues around socio-environmental sustainability.
