Abstract
This article consists of a critique of Andrés Ortiz-Osés’s text, entitled “Mitologías culturales”, which aims to define the historical path that mythical traditions of Europe and Asia have followed. I question his claims to universality and his eurocentric perspective, as well as the lack of solid archaeological foundation while formulating his hypotheses about the alleged religion of Mother Goddess. I use recent ethnology to criticize his way of conceptualizing “animism”. Finally, I show that the concepts from which he interprets Buddhism and Taoism are completely wrong.
