Essay-testimony that reflects on the vicissitudes that arose during the archaeological exploration works of 1972, headed by Roberto García Moll and María Elena Salas, in an excavation of Cholula, Puebla, especially notable for having found more than five hundred burials. A first conjecture suggested that these remains corresponded to the Cholula massacre of October 18, 1519, but later evidence led to a more plausible explanation, recognizing that the numerous burials were the result of a deadly smallpox pandemic that took place between 1545 and 1548.
