Los estudios arqueoastronómicos de El Castillo de Chichén Itzá: nuevas propuestas para su interpretación

Abstract

Recent debates on the “equinox” as an astronomical event at Structure 2D5, also known
as “El Castillo,” at Chichén Itzá have made us reassess old and new possibilities for its explanation, acceptance, or rejection. In this paper, we review the main scientific arguments about the astronomical event, to propose an alternative interpretation using new evidence about the relevance of observational evidence, architectural and urban context giving greater importance to its calendaric symbolism, as well as a possible link between the event with the synodic movement of Venus.
