Abstract
In the capital of the state of San Luis Potosí, different human groups have obtained a source of survival from the quarries on the southern and western periphery of the city. They dominated it through energies available and in accord with the degree of knowledge and technology achieved at a given moment. This study examines an illustration from 1575-1577—“Work in a quarry”—from Fray Bernardino de Sahagún’s work as a fundamental resource in reading historical constructive technology. It also includes a survey of the different forms of representing the processes and activities of stonemasons or craftsmen in stonework through time; which were compared in situ (quarry), and how they are currently worked in the city of San Luis Potosí.
