By means afease study of the funerals among the Pere of Camerún, this article approaches the system of thought that gives birth to the particular visión of the word that this society reproduces, and to the basic structure that lays behind african funerary rites in general. Emphasis is put on the symbolic boundary established between nature and culture, while at the same time the socialfunctions ofthe rite in question are explained
