Abstract

The article analyzes the sex-gender identities and the construction-deconstruction of the stereotypical cinematographic images in the climactic cinematic sequence of the Mexican film El lugar sin límites —The Place Without Limits— (1977), by Arturo Ripstein, in which the dance performed by the character “La Manuela,” a homosexual transvestite, for Pancho, a typical ‘macho’ homosexual Mexican trucker, which culminates in a homosexual exchange. This, based on the concept of the ‘performative dimension’ of the Judith Butler genre.
