The international exhibition, that fleeting event: a catalog for documentation

Abstract

In the current museology there is growing concern about the documentation of processes taking place in museums. No longer see these institutions as mere repositories of objects, but as sources of information and knowledge to make them available to multiple users.

The documentation can be viewed in two ways: as a set of documents produced by the museum in their daily tasks and how the process or sequence of work applied to different sets of documents (Documentation in Museums). In the museological tradition has given more to the documentation of collections weight but other museum activities deserve to be recovered to generate reports that illustrate the processes, techniques, steps and decisions taken and implemented at different times in history.

In this article I will discuss the case of documents of international exhibitions organized by INAH in the past 24 years, an area that had not been studied in a systematic and comprehensive manner, one may not urgent task, but very important, allowing closer questions such as how many and which international exhibitions have been made? What countries have shown the cultural richness of Mexico and why? What issues have been privileged? What exhibitions from other countries have presented in ours? What impact have you had? For the purposes of this research, it was considered as "international exposure" to those projects involving works of loan granted in other countries and, therefore, he transferred to or from abroad.
