Abstract

Violent Times. Reinterpreting the collection at the Carillo Gil Art Museum, a temporary exhibition showing from January to April 2012, was the result of a joint project between the UNAM’s postgraduate Art History course, the Contemporary Art Museum Alvar y Carmen T. de Carrillo Gil and the Americas Society, New York.  In this project, three postgraduate students expressed their reflections on violence in the modern world, with particular emphasis on the current situation in Mexico, by approaching different themes like politics, the body and the psyche and those propitiated by civilization. The works selected gave life to violence that destroys and alienates the body and mind, violence that subdues and threatens the fate of society and violence that is suffered in the intimacy of silence.
