Resumen
El ensayo que presento discute un conjunto de preguntas. En años recientes, las feministas han logrado transmitir tanto a audiencias académicas como al público en general la idea de que su pensamiento es incuestionablemente importante. Si anteriormente nos cegaba el prejuicio, hoy habríamos emprendido el “descubrimiento” de las mujeres y reunido gran cantidad de información sobre sus existencias, sus necesidades y sus intereses. Todo ello había sido ignorado anteriormente por la academia. Las tradiciones sexistas produjeron, por supuesto, descripciones desiguales, pero ahora más que nunca nos percatamos de cuán poco es lo que sabemos acerca de las mujeres. Y la urgencia de saber qué experimentamos quienes hacemos investigación en la actualidad se exacerba ante el reconocimiento de que se ha perdido irremediablemente una enorme cantidad de datos sobre las artes que practican las mujeres, su trabajo y sus relaciones políticas. Se dice que nuestras teorías serán apenas tan buenas como lo sea nuestra información.
