Abstract

The myth of Santiago´s birth, which belongs to the oral tradition of San Miguel Acuexcomac, Puebla, represents the actual version of an ancient one: the latter narrates Huitzilopochtli´s birth, the mexica war god. We can compare Santiago´s Grandmother transformation with the Goddessmother´s sacrifice, which is an earthly and lunar divinity of war and delivery. We find the Goddessmother in different mythical episodes of the nahua prehispanic tradition.
