La dinámica demográfica de Monte Albán durante el Clásico: fecundidad, mortalidad y esperanza de vida

Este estudio propone escenarios demográficos distintos para los pobladores de Monte Albán durante el periodo Clásico, a partir de la realización de simulaciones estadísticas, para inferir algunos indicadores de mortalidad, fecundidad y esperanza de vida. La muestra consta de 406 esqueletos procedentes de diversas unidades domésticas excavadas en varios proyectos arqueológicos, desde la década de 1970 hasta el 2014. Los resultados muestran diferencias entre los distintos periodos cronológicos; de manera general podemos mencionar que durante el Clásico la estructura por grupos de edad y sexo corresponde a una población muy joven. La esperanza de vida al nacer promedió 25 años durante los periodos MA II y IIIa, y disminuyó a 23.6 años en el periodo siguiente. La mayor mortalidad infantil se registró durante el periodo MA II, y durante el MA IIIb-IV se identificó la tasa bruta de natalidad más alta, lo que es consistente con la época de mayor crecimiento demográfico registrada para Monte Albán.
