Abstract

Food is an element of the Mesoamerican funeral ritual that has undergone transformations over the years and that traditionally has displayed regional variants. However, its presence in the form of Day of the Dead altars is of prime importance. The food of the Day of the Dead offering is directly related to the continuity of life and propitiates social cohesion.
