Abstract

Mexican attitudes concerning death are a subject of fascination to all, locals and foreigners alike; this is how the celebration of death has undergone a transformation that has led to a new concept known as funeral tourism. It is derived from cultural tourism that seeks to be an experience that recognizes community traditions and customs through recognition of local culture. Given the need to promote tourism as a source of income for the domestic market, the idea is to regulate the practice by granting the status of Cemetery Museum to those locations, whether for their architecture, history, or for containing the graves of outstanding men and women in different fields, that every year are filled with tourists interested in gaining an understanding of the Day of the Dead celebration and the history of Mexico.
