Abstract
This reflection explains the concept of heritage through a double connection between itself and people: who works in their research and dissemination and those who define it as part of their being. This relationship is functional for the formation and transmission of the sense of community’s identity, one of the most important purposes of heritage, so it is also useful to visualize where is the greatest risk of the budget cuts to the Instituto Nacional de Antropologi?a e Historia (INAH). In consequence, the defense of heritage must involve those who enjoy and learn from it. The idea of this double connection is explained on an interpretation of the (social) systems theory as philosophy of subject.
