Sistema y metodología de registro y documentación del deterioro e intervenciones de conservación en la zona arqueológica de Ek Balam, Yucatán
Abstract
This article presents elements of graphic and photographic recording that takes place within the Ek Balam conservation project. Additionally, it contains a critical analysis of the methodology created for the site conservation project, and the evaluation of advantages and disadvantages for recording material condition and conservation treatments of Mayan architectural decorations in the way it is currently practiced. The article discusses also important aspects not covered by this particular documentation methodology. A critical view on new strategies and technical systems is provided, aiming at improving our task in helping recognize symbolic and material values of the site. Some ideas are presented on how new systems will help capturing more users for recreation, communication, and research purposes, and how current digital information technology and strategies offered by the market could be practically integrated, in the near future, to improve our recording methods for conservation purposes.
