Y ahora, ¿a dónde pondremos a nuestros santos? ¿En dónde les rezaremos? Algunos efectos del sismo del 19 de septiembre de 2017 en el estado de Morelos

Abstract

This article describes the organizational process which occurred right after the September 19th, 2017 earthquake in the west and northeastern areas of the Morelos State. This event triggered the aiding actions of individuals and several supporting social nets. Not much has been said about the effects of this earthquake on the popular religion, we believe this issue is a very important aspect because of the emotional impact in different communities, produced by the destruction of the sacred places and the religious images. We also describe several strategies taken to protect their religious images called “santos” and to continue with their ritual cycle displayed during their lent celebrations. These celebrations we carried out this year despite of the uncertainty around the reconstruction of their sacred spaces and saints.
